Hello, my name is Gary Nichols — as if you couldn't tell from the spiffy logo at the top of each page. Thank you for stopping by my web site and taking a look at my portfolio.

I'm a photojournalist who lives and works in Pensacola, Fla., on the northern edge of the Gulf of Mexico, in the western end of Florida's Panhandle.

You'd love it here: semi-tropical climate, sugar-white beaches, emerald-green water, sunny skies (interrupted now and then by the occasional tropical storm or hurricane), a lot of really nice people (most of the really freaky ones are in Key West) and the home of the Navy's world-famous Blue Angels.

This area is sometimes disparagingly referred to as the "Redneck Riviera" by rude people who live in more congested parts of Florida where the cost of living is a lot higher than it is here and where their beaches aren't as nice as ours.

I'm a photographer, writer, designer and all-around nice guy — just ask all the people who eagerly look forward to receiving a piece of my paycheck each week.

I've worked in the newspaper and magazine business for better part of the past two decades.

For the past five or six years, I've been editor and chief photographer of Gosport, a weekly newspaper for Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla. I've also edited numerous books and manuals and contributed to many other local and national publications.

Additionally, I am team photographer for the Gulf Coast Herricanes, a women's football team from Mobile, Ala., and the Pensacola Ice Pilots, a men's hockey team based in Pensacola, Fla. — I swear I had nothing to do with them leaving Pensacola.

In addition to shooting the photos for the website of the Gulf Coast Herricanes, I'm also working on a coffee-table photo book named "Sacred Ground" for the U.S. Veterans Administration. It should be available this summer at your local bookstore.

So be sure to rush down there and buy two or three copies as gifts for your friends and family. I'm confident they'll love it and admire you for your excellent taste and patriotic spirit.

If you're really moved by my photos and writing samples and for some reason or other are interested in having more details about my professional background, e-mail me and I'll send you my complete resume. If you need any photography, writing or design work, give me a call at 850.439.1734 or e-mail me at gary-nichols@juno.com and we can discuss your project.
